The National Republican Party (Herzlander: Nationale Republikanische Partei ), is a political party, guerrilla group, and umbrella organization operating under the principles of republicanism, democracy, and anti-monarchism. Known to employ a variety of methods, including in some cases terrorism, assassination, and other forms of political violence, the National Republican Party has emerged as one of the chief organizations in Griffonia opposing the rule of the Griffonian Empire. It is currently active in over 10 different countries, and serves as the ruling party and sole legal party of the Griffonian Republic, ruled by President-Marshal Alexander Kemerskai.
The National Republican Party has been deemed illegal in most nations across Griffonia, including in the Griffonian Empire, Yale, the Kingdom of Aquileia, and numerous others. In many nations, however, including the Imperial vassal of Romau, the NRP is legal opposition, and serves in parliaments, city councils, and the legislature. However, in most of these nations, the NRP is a marginal political force, with most of its major theorists in the Griffonian Republic proper or in guerrilla or terrorist groups such as the Free State Army, led by the "Little Kemerskai" of Angriver, Gerhard Bluhm. One of the only major elected officials for the party outside of the Republic is Gabriella d'Karthin, a legislator and Senator of Romau.
The party's core political philosophies remain values of republicanism, liberalism, and democracy, although the methods used to achieve those values vary from branch to branch. After the loss of the party's hold over Griffenheim during the Griffonian Revolutionary War, the National Republican Party became increasingly factional, with many parties having ties to the Cloudbury branch in name only. The Republic itself holds four major branches - classical liberals, seeking to bring democracy to the Republic through restraint and pragmatism, social democrats, seeking militarist policies and a swift return to Griffenheim to provide for the people's welfare, democratic socialists, seeking the establishment of a socialist economy to counteract capitalism, and right-wing militarists, seeking state intervention and fanatic anti-monarchism.
